Supplemental Search
I tried to research supplemental search results, but I just got confused. It is my understanding that you can get a page into supplemental search results if you have the same title, meta description, the page contents is the same as another, the page doesn't get updated enough or you just don't have enough link juice to pass around.
Please tell me which ones of these are wrong. The one that concerns me is not having enough link juice to pass around, because on the page just before the products page I have a parametric search. A parametric search is basically a search with options on the left to filter down the search which is great, but makes makes a lot of pages. To see what I mean go to http://www.eautoworks.com/html/light_bulbs.cfm if you click show more you'll be able to see all the hidden links on the page too. I don't want to completely stop indexing the search engine because I use that for the majority of the website and it is the only way to get to the product pages, but do I put nofollow tags on everything that is hidden or not towards the top? If a result is hidden than it have as many results as one of the top 6 or 7 and if it's lower on the page then more then likely all the parts are all in one of the options instead of spread out. I'd be greatful if anybody could help me with this problem. If I wrote anything that confuses you please post a reply and I will clarify. Thanks in advance. |

Supplementals are still there, still matter and from my experiecne it most regularly comes down to the link mojo... or lack thereof. Personally, if the pages are legit (unique content, products, descriptions) I wouldn't necessarily stop them from being indexed especially if they were among those that are, or should be producers.
I don't know how much control you have over the site functions but the best solution IMO is to identify the producers, to the best of your ablilty, and bring them to the to the fore in your link structure. If it's third party sofware you can always link to them individually within the content of the other pages (which is likely better anyway) if you don't have that type of control over the menu in the cms. While you're doing that, bust a$$ on the link building but take the time to figure out where you're likely to get the most bang for your buck so to speak. Add to that... here's a great one, from a great one that I'll steal for here. Quote:
