    Still think content is king?

Links are the king according to Matt Cutts Links = ranks, deal with it so now you can stop saying "content is king" it's not, except on Fantasy Island!

I still think content is playing an important role, if content contains important information visitors look for. Google also adding some part of content in search result title and description.

But good content obtain the links, without good content you will not get the good links to rank so content is still king.

But you can rank ANY website for anything with enough of the right kind of links but you can't rank ANY website for anything (competitive) without links.

    Boom, links are king

Links are king, as long as it's relevant.. So Matt Cutts says. A site that has quality links but has the worst information you can find ranking better than sites that have far more comprehensive information or knowledge just because of links, that's a bit f****ed. Oh wait, it's because Wikipedia has volunteers who copy and paste stuff from other sites

Yes, but to have revenue, you need links, so links are king.

Well, maybe Revenue is King, Links are Queens/Rooks and Content is kind of a Bishop or a Knight. It's Google's chessboard and I think we know who they view as the pawns, lol.

I wouldn't care how much links I got or what keywords I ranked for or what kind of traffic I got, if I can't generate revenue and ROI from it all, we're just dancing on a sinking ship, no? These are practical considerations clients come to us as SEOs with all the time. I've seen more than a few sites with great links, great rankings, great traffic, but not enough conversions/revenue to sustain the endeavor. The end game in those situations is inevitable....

I understand the original intent in the thread, lol, and I agree - Links are still the most important ranking factor and will continue to be for the forseeable future.

I'm just trying to reclarify what the most important metric is here and the only one that actually puts food on the table, is all....

Backlinks can either make your life (net presence) worth living or wish you were dead (insufficient link juice vs. competitors or bad link penalties/ban), but without backlinks you don't exist at all (not found in the SERPs). Content determines if you eat or starve (conversions). One without the other , content and backlinks, ... you are crippled.

I like that. Links ensure existence, content keeps you fed. They certainly are useless w/o one another.
