    is this spam?

I was comparing my link popularity to another site. My link pop. is higher than their yet they rank higher than me for this search term.

So I look at their page and see this
The usual Meta keywords and description and then below it
Meta name="vw96.objecttype" content="and the same keywords again"
    then
    meta name="DC.Title" content="same keywords again"
    meta name="dc.description" content="same keywords again"

Is this spam? They definitely out rank my site by quite a few positions.

    thanks for any advice

Even if it was spam i dont think it is what is making hte difference, Google pays little to no attentions to keyword loaded meta tags, must be doing somethin else right
Webmasters who spend their energies upholding the spirit of the basic principles [Of Google] will provide a much better user experience and subsequently enjoy better ranking than those who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit. Google.com

What else is there. Another site that is ahead of mine for this keyword that the keyword mentioned in the text 1 time.

Maybe I am being penalized for something? How would I know?

you say your competitor has less links that you but ranks higher....., why dont you take a look at your competitors links and analyze why they are beating your in the SE's

It may be the case that they are listed in more important resources, such as dmoz, yahoo, goguides, etc..

It may also be the case that the links that point to your competitors site are better than yours. By this i mean that you may have links pointing to you in this manner.

    Title: my site
    desc: offers this service

as apposed to your competitor who may have more links pointing to him in the following manner,

Tilte: competitor name - important keyphrase
Desc: offers important keyphrase and important keyphrase and important keyphrases.

    research ahoy methinks

    --

aside from linking, you competitor may have a site that is optimised better than yours.., check it out and see if you cant find the reasons why.

    best of luck

Well, I'm new to this game, but why would quality of the link out way quantity of links?

I just used the same keyword search on yahoo and it's funny that other than one entry the yahoo list is in exactly the same order as google for at least the first 12 listings

One thing I did notice. Their title has key worda, key wordb, key wordc,

I have an actual title on my page that gives a brief description of the site. The description tag goes into more detail. Could this be why they are out ranking me?

Would my title be too long that I am being penalized for it? It's 14 words with no commas

    thanks for any advice

If you are relying on Title and Description alone, you are going to have a long wait to see your site/s climb the SE ladder.

Plenty of midnight oil to be burnt.......

    have fun

    Dont fair !!

Ok here the analysis and don't be fair i'will tell them very kindly
1- Your concurrence is very strong even you have a very good PR.
2- The concurrence that have the same as your PR or less are working their keys more effeciently than you.
3- you are not number 12 but number 10 in www2

ok i suggest you to do now at least like those hwo have PR like you .. you have to put in title "3d archery" first and not in the middle.
you have to add another page called 3d-archery.html with a link in the first page that will be especialy for the description of the term ( a lot of of your concurrence do that) and make sure that the title of this file will be "3d archery".
and finally i suggest you to do your links in simple html and not with flash or at least put your links in the top of the page it helps a little.
Good luck for the next update

Well, I'm new to this game, but why would quality of the link out way quantity of links?
Quality always outways quantity. Imagine, you could have 1 correct category listing inside DMOZ, or 10 links from non related resources..., i know which one i'd go with

Directories are a great resources for building popularity. Make sure you get a correct category listing in as many of the top resources as you can.., you have to pay an entry fee into most important directories.., why? .., because they work and they do boost your website, and the directories know this and thats part the reason why we have to pay.
