Sitemaps xml Vs html
Hello
Excuse me being a dunse here, but i know the sitemaps xml and html are of different platforms, but can they contain different content? Ie the html one contain gubbins for the internet user, and the xml one contains googblebot stuff? Ie, ive never seen a sitemap with home 0.9 about us 0.8 for example cheers james |

Yeah HTML sitemap is mainly for the users and can be different than a valid XML one. It should help users to easily find their way to the different areas of your site. It does help bots too and can be used to transfer internal link weight.
XML is mainly for bots and does not effect internal link weight. Last edited by malta : July 22nd, 2008 at 09:44 AM. |

They contain different content because they are completely different in nature.
They are not actually "different platofrms". The XML sitemap is a standardised format with a protocol, the static HTML sitemap is an industry standard with no ptotocol. Usually your static sitemap and xml sitemap will have the same links. Don't worry about the priority setting in XML sitemaps it doesn't do anything for rankings.
