Unhappy Sitemap Issues...Can Anyone Help?

When I do a Sitemap test in Google Annalytics, I get this message:

Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

I have an XML Site Map generator on my blog. It tells me this:

Your sitemap was last built on January 27, 2012 3:15 am.
Your sitemap (zipped) was last built on January 27, 2012 3:15 am.
Google was successfully notified about changes.
Bing was successfully notified about changes.
Ask.com was successfully notified about changes.
The building process took about 1.93 seconds to complete and used 20.75 MB of memory.

My traffic has drastically dropped in the past 2 to 3 months. Could this have anything to do with it? If so, what do I need to do to fix it?

Thank you!

A sitemap is not likely to be a ranking factor. It's only a stopgap measure.

A sitemap is much more likely to affect indexation rates than rankings. That is, if only 50% of your pages are indexed by google, a sitemap will possibly increase that.

In my experience, a sitemap's effect on rankings is negligible.

I don't see any reasons for a sitemap to affect your traffic. I think you just lack with off page optimization.
