What's the standard to "re-direct" from www.domain.com to www.domain.com/language without affecting rankings for www.domain.com (i.e. www.domain.com remains in the serps)
i.e. http://www.ibm.com automatically redirects to http://www.ibm.com/us/en/
Hilton.com for example re-directs to http://www3.hilton.com/en/index.html
Would using a canonical / 302 work? or what would be the best practice?
IBM uses a 302, which is what I was assuming but I noticed some sites such as Hilton using a 301. Any ideas on best practice for multiple languages?
