Site index question

Hi all,

Just a quick one...

We have small family business site which is quite well poistioned in Google but whenever I search on my domain name, and it comes back with the page results, it seems to dance between the results! One day it might say: Results 1 - 6 of 6 from (domain - name.com) another day it might say 1 of 12, then back to 1 of 8 etc...

Any ideas why this does this? Is it a common thing with Google?

Many thanks & happy Xmas - Pudders

Hi Pudders,

Welcome to SeoChat

Nowadays it is normal for Google results to fluctuate constantly (it's called "everflux" in the Google/Seo world and was introduced a few years ago)!

However - if the number of your indexed pages is fluctuating constantly - it most likely means that Google are having difficulty navigating your domain (check your internal linking stucture and submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools) OR that you have insufficient backlinks to create stability in your rankings (in which case a link campaign is needed)... In this instance - "deep links" (ie: Links from other sites direct to your inner pages) will have the best effect.

Pudders agrees: Great Advice... thanks

Your serps are (at present) a representation of your existing incoming links, content and site structure (compared to all your competition).

Gaining those links (especially the deep ones) - with the right selection of anchors - will not only result in more stable site indexing, but will greatly enhance your serps performance.
