Question Site Dropped From Google - Need Advice

    Hi,

I'm new here. In early fall I optimized my site a bit and it was getting pretty good ranking for many relevant search phrases. Now, I'm not a big SEO specialist and can't keep up with all the info on that - no time, have to do design work :-) I'm sure I've done some things incorrectly, but there were no obvious doorway pages and other dirty tricks, although some pages were somewhat similar with slightly different text, rearranged and optimized for specific keywords. For the visitors, the important image in the center invites to click on main HTML or Flash site. Flash link uses javascript to open the right kind of window. Those other pages are interlinked with home page, main site pages and each other, so I didn't think that would pose a problem.

It was working fine for many months, and I did not do any changes recently. Suddenly the site was dropped entirely from Google, even from a direct search for the site name. I guess something has changed with Google algorithms or maybe because the site has risen to first few places on some keywords recently, maybe Google has looked more thoroughly, and regarded some pages as doorway pages, although there were not exactly doorways: they were all relevant and readable, linked from and to home page, but of course optimized for specific keywords and they all had a graphic for launching a main Flash site (and HTML site). Anyway, Google clearly penalized my site for something, and that's the only theory I have.

I have removed all of those pages, just left home page, main HTML site pages, and Flash site. Stats show that Google bot has visited the site today, but the site is still completely dropped out from search results.

Maybe someone here could answer these questions:

    - How long does it take for a dropped site to be returned to search results, provided the problem was corrected?

    - Has anything known changed in Google around December 6 that would cause elimination from search rankings without any changes to the site?

    - Is there an obvious problem with my website that I'm missing? (URL address blocked: See forum rules)

    - Is there a way to contact Google and request reinclusion?

BTW Google Webmaster Tools shows the following:
    Home page crawl:
Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Nov 19, 2006.
    Index status:
Pages from your site are included in Google's index. See Index stats.

But they are clearly excluded fro search results, and my web stats show Google bot visiting twice in the last 2 days.

I just wanted to let you know that I had a similar experience on December 6th as well. When did a search for site:mydomain i received nothing. The actual week before that my rankings dropped like no other. As of yesterday we actually showed back up under the site: search with a new cache showing as of December 6th now. Today i checked my rankings via DigitalPoint www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/ and noticed a HUGE increase in rankings. I have 25 keywords jump 25+ rankings, and also have about 12 different keywords come from 150+ not even ranking with the checker to now in the top 100.

Let's just say I wasnt for sure either what happened but from reading some archive i see some of the same things happened before where people were "gone" for a week and back and saw some jump in rankings or a loss. Whichever, things change daily so I will hope for the best I apologize if I did not help you much, but just show my experience I just had

I too had a similar problem , had minor heart failure then recovered through self applied CPR and some coffee...

It seems to happen and looks to be happening more regular..

Google ( finally ) seems to be really rooting out the "Made for Adsense" and other sites and keeping the good ones.. and all the while everyone suffers at some stage...

I thought at the time it was Google Sandbox I was falling into... and that i would have to start building castles and hoping I didnt find yellow sand...:-)

But all well :-) Dont worry my friend , all will be well!!!

My site got dropped, and now its back - but way off the rankings. I can only find it by searching on my site name. Google are too fickle.

    - How long does it take for a dropped site to be returned to search results, provided the problem was corrected?
Whenever Google decides to propogate the information that it has collected from its daily crawls. It could take a couple days up to a few weeks, but most likely a week or so, provided nothing else is wrong.

    - Has anything known changed in Google around December 6 that would cause elimination from search rankings without any changes to the site? No. There have been a few variations in results in the UK and AU results.

    - Is there an obvious problem with my website that I'm missing? (URL address blocked: See forum rules) PM me the URL

    - Is there a way to contact Google and request reinclusion?
Now where should you send a reinclusion request? This has changed in the last few months from an email address to a web form. The best location to go is HERE . You can select “I’m a webmaster inquiring about my website” and then select “Why my site disappeared from the search results or dropped in ranking.” Click Continue, and on the page that shows up, make sure to type “Reinclusion Request” in the Subject: line of the resulting form. Upper- or lower-case doesn’t matter, but make sure you use the words “reinclusion request” in the subject line so it gets routed to the right place.

Now we come to the heart of things: what goes into a reinclusion request. Fundamentally, Google wants to know two things: 1) that any spam on the site is gone or fixed, and 2) that it’s not going to happen again. I’d recommend giving a short explanation of what happened from your perspective: what actions may have led to any penalties and any corrective action that you’ve taken to prevent any spam in the future.

Hmm.. I can't for some reason. I've activated the account, but it won't let me sent you a PM...

Thanks a lot for the info. I'll see if the site gets restored. Maybe the same thing has happened as some people above had mentioned, and it does not have anything to do with my pages that I was suspecting have triggered this.

Yesterday night Google Webmaster Tools changed the info and was showing "no pages indexed", but no warning message or reinclusion form. Now it shows that the all pages are indexed again. So something is going on there, but no warnings about anything. So maybe it will fix itself...

If it does not fix itself, then I will do as you advised. Thanks!

Hmm. There is no such option there, not about a webmaster and not the second question either. U submitted a general form by choosing "other" with "reinclusion request" in the subject, but not sure it will get anywhere.

Just as an update: there is no change, the site still appears to be penalized...

    Hi Romanber,

I am going through exactly the same thing, my site was doing really well, we was making good progree and suddany...wam...were of the ricter scale absolutly nowere to be seen fo rmy competitive keywords...which is only really two...in the last update Y made we rank on the first page but google we rank near 800th, its been like that for around 3 weeks now and i cant figure it out, maybe it will come back who knows, i have another site that ranks number 1 on the same server so i know that there isnt anything wrong at that end (or so i think), i will sit tight and if it doesnt return i will think about something else, (maybe stop spending so much on Adwords).

    Good luck

IMHO, if all of your terms stop ranking at once, you've triggered some sort of automated penalty. I'd try undoing the "spammiest" things you've done lately first.

This is just my opinion, but I was able to "pop back in" after I tweaked my website for a week or so.

It may be of interest that from time to time my site will disappear for just one search term only but the serps remain OK for the other terms I am optimised for. At the moment I have disappeared for one term again but this time on only a few datacentres. Could anyone shed any light on this type of instance. Its annoying but last time it took 24 hours to reappear again with no additional work done to the site. Is this a google dance and is it a sign my site maybe dropped in the future as I still don't understand why this happens regularly?

Exact the same situation. It happened last week for a term and this week for a different term, both competitive keywords we ranked well for. However, we just completely redesigned the site, so this may have something to do with it as well.
