    "Simple" Backlink Questions

    1. How does Google list backlinks? (not alphabetically, not according to PR, so how?)

    2. Why are PR0 links listed by Google (man-health-online.net/health/ directory/human-growth-hormone-online.php) as backlinks and PR4 links (see the links on http://www.21stcenturyhgh.com/hgh-research-info.htm) are not?

    3. Why do backlinks show up, you click on them, and your website url is nowhere to be found, either visibly or in the source code? (backlink is http://www.sexualenhancementplus.com, link is http://www.21stcenturyhgh.com)

    4. How can a website with 42 backlinks have a pagerank of 6 (hghcompany.com) while a page with 242 backlinks have a pagerank of 5 (21stcenturyhgh.com)?

    5. How can a PR4 website (0ww.com/hgh.html) with 84 backlinks consistently out-SERP a PR5 website with 246 backlinks (21stcenturyhgh.com)?

    6. Which is the more relevent backlink number? (The one that comes up as total backlinks on the very first page or the one that's shown on the last backlink page within the phrase "we have omitted some entries very similar to the xxx already displayed.")

    Thanks for everyone's help!

    Michael

    3. No clue, maybe the link was removed after the links were calculated?
    4. Higher PR BL's
    5. More relevant BL's, better anchor text, better on page....
    6. IMO neither is relevant or indicative of the quanity or quality of BL's

I think people focus way too much on the backlinks that the toolbar shows. I think those are just eye-candy, and are out of date and incomplete.

google does not want people to reverse engineer its algo and then be able to manipulate it. the backlinks are just to give interested people an idea of some of the sites that consider the site in question to be worthy of a link and thus important. the google toolbar is NOT made for SEO use, and should not be used for such.. just my opinion.

it may not be made for it, but it sure is SEO friendly.

it's quite weird they even bothered to make the PR public.

Just left PR open to manipulation didn't it? Its kinda neat, but other than for geeks or SEO people (whom google doesn't really like anyways); its not useful to the general public. With Amazon having a 0 PR, it is hardly a good estimation of a site's worth.
