    Similar meta-different sites

    Hi,
we have 4 shopping carts. all four are form neighbor categories but having many similar products. and my bad all have similar meta tags (title/description). as far as the concern with ranking all carts are performing really well but now we have chance to revise all the meta but when we count total products+categories, the actual figure goes to 1900. so what should we do. should we change all meta and make them unique. or let them as they are.

Ok well first off to clear things up, the title tag is not a meta tag, it's a title tag. Now for the meta description tag, this is not the reason why you will lose rankings because it has absolutely no weight for your rankings. The description tag is just to help the user know what your page is containing. It is like a glimpse of your web page. This could attract visitors to your website by a click through rate but you won't get a better ranking even if your description tag is highly optimized and contains keywords and the whole kit.

For the title tag though you should revise all of them and give them each a unique title. The title tag does help for your rankings. Include 2 -3 keyword or keyword phrases in your title. Put your main keyword first because order does count. A keyword placed first has more weight than one that is placed last.

Hope I answered your question. If not, keep them coming.

I wouldn't both to change any of them if your ranking well and they describe the pages well.

Google aint gunu care if the metadata is similar for your sites. Have you seen some of the titles ad descriptions some sites use? Some are single words, copies from other sites and so on, yet they still rank in top 10.

Basically title and description dont effect your rankings, so its nothing to worry about. Only do it if its going to help to make more people want to click your listing, other wise its a waste of your time IMHO.

The title tag does help for your rankings. It is quite important in fact for rankings and it is important to add 2 - 3 keywords in it putting your main keyword first because the order of the keywords have ranking weight as well.

its still better to have different titles and meta inputs.. so you can rank on other relevant key terms..
