    Silo vs internal linking???

I've seen a few threads in various places to the effect that the algo changes now favour a silo structure.

Does anybody actually know if this is right?

One in, one out (plus link to home?) demolishes the potential for support via internal linking so I'm keen to know what is really going on.

    Many Thanks aamcle

Silo-ing has some merit it isn't easy to do.

The idea is if you have a SEO domain and 1 section is for seo customer/services another for SEO training and below seo customer/services you have link development and content creation and in SEO training you have support services for that market like networking you would build your domain much like minisites with a site.

SEO > SEO Services > Link Development

SEO > SEO Services > Content Creation

SEO > SEO Training > Networking

So each color would be a different unique silo unto itself and links for training (regardless of whether they are internal or external) would link out to the other parts of the domain (except to the silo above it)

I think that over at Bruce Clay's site, a search on the word "silo" would probably (used to as I remember) bring up articles by Bruce and others on how to use silos to succeed in SEO....

Nice idea. Never tried it myownself tho...but did as I remember a few years back, make sense at least....

ymmv of course, but great research to learn from, eh!

in retrospect it's still off-optimization... and a great way to visualize I develop blogs with blogs inside...

so root blog is say SEO

then that links to 50 blogs -1 for each state.

With each state there are X number of major cities with population greater than 200K at about 100 in total so a state like California has 20 major cities - each is a blog... a self contained link structure... in every main theme (state & city in this case)... or silo-ing.

The greatest values for silo-ing is the ability to easily produce indented listing with sitelinks.

In my experience, both approaches are working equally well for MayDay changes (however I cant clearly separate the influence of each).
So I would say, use both if you are not afraid of efforts needed for 'siloing' (stupid word, imho :-).

    Mmmm..........

I'm a bit more confused now, so I can link internally within each silo?

With a final link from the bottom of say silo1 to the top of silo2?
