Serp Results Dropping For One Phrase Only????
I have a couple of websites that have been doing well for many years. They are on the first page for hundreds of keyword phrases, but for the most important phrase they both dropped off the first page to the second and third page about a week ago. All the other well ranked phrases have not moved. I'm thinking it may be a penalty for using the same phrase too often to link back to the home page, so I changed the links to the home page to have more variety. Any other ideas or experience with what might cause this?

Considering its only one phrase i would assume that the competition has risen. Check your back links to see if any have been removed. After that I would continue to build links to get back to page 1.
