What recommendations can people suggest for a beginner looking to get into search engine optimization?

1. any good books, ebooks, or websites you would recommend? (Beside for these forums which has been very helpful

2. What programs are most popular to use for SEO?

3. Any other tips or advice you think I should know will be greatly appreciated!

Two great books I've read are "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" and "Search Engine Optimization - one hour a day". These are both great books.

Also- make good friends with an SEO professional and go to him/her for advice as much as possible!

Other than that, keep reading forums such as this one. Good luck.

I'd recommend using google's personalized home page option and adding several different SEO related blog feeds as you find them. Before long, you'll have 30+ SEO blogs all updating you on the latest news!
