Hey Webby,

thanks for this report. Awesome! should've met up for a pint while you were here in London. As a German living in London I'm sort of your reverse - well, anyways.. really like your lively forum on http://www.abakus-internet-marketin...forum/index.php and will return for many more German posts as time permits>>

Hi Memphiz :-)
As a German, you would probably get more out of my German language forum which is much more active... http://www.abakus-internet-marketing.de/foren/ :-)

Gruß
Alan

How unfortunate. I don't suppose you happened to find out anything about what went on re flash?

What I was interested in liestening to, and what I did listen from you Webby, was regarding the significance of links from related sites. Also, the importance of outgoing links to related sites needed conformation for some. Now that you have confirmed that these factors do actually play a big role, there will less doubt about the difference that thematic linking can make.

As always, great post! Special thanks for that great effort that went into typing such a long post.

@flash-seo

Optimizing for flash is relatively straight forward. The basics are on my tutorial page here.
Looking at the handbook the seminar was more on pdfs than optimizing flash anyway.

excellent post

Just came back from work related trip and found this amazing post. Allthough there was nothing *earthshaking*, this was one heck of a summary. It's great that SEOs like you are generous enough to write reports from conferences. Hopefully someone establishes a "scandinavian / baltic seo conference" soon - London is a bit too far away....

Hi,

We are only a small number of people in the SEO industry in Scandinavia. There are probably less than 30 people who make a fulltime living from SEO in Norway, and I would guess there must be similar numbers for the other scandinavian countries? We could have a SEO conference/BBQ is someones backyard :-)

Sweden has more, Finland about 2/3 of that figure. So we are very few... Hopefully the quality overcomes quantity.

hey fryman, looks like you've read through the lines. I guess the first post, titled "....conference Part I" was followed by "....conference Part 2".

lol, you got 8 word pages for goodness sake! Sheesh ;-)

I'm checking the company finances and seeing if a trip to San Jose is doable. Maybe another report after that one.

Hey webby I noticed you mentioned Paddy but never commented on what he said may I ask why?! LOL

I can't believe he's actually invited to speak at SEO conferences. The guy preaches pure SPAM.

(NOTE: My opinion and not of SEOChat ;))

Quote:
Particularly impressive was graphical representation of what was like a linkage radar chart. I believe this was from Warren Cowen. It is impossible to explain without showing it but it highlighted all aspects of linkage on a chart and you could work out how valuable a link would be based on, if memory serves me correctly, around 10 different linking aspects. The more of the radar you filled in the better the link. Such aspects as thematic/page relevance, number of outgoing links, authority status, prominence, anchor text, hub or not and others that escape me.

I freaking knew it. I think we were discussing that last week. I wrote out the "10 commandments of linking"

Here is what I said:

1. Make sure the site is relevant to your website.
2. Make sure the site isn't banned.
3. Make sure the site isn't SPAMMING the engines
4. Make sure the site isn't a linkfarm.
5. Make sure the site isn't linking to any bad neighborhoods/banned sites.
6. Make sure the site isn't selling links.
7. Make sure the site isn't sticking your link on a links page with 100 other links.
8. Make sure the site isn't blocking your link using robots.txt or CGI/Perl/PHP scripts.
9. Make sure the site's theme matches their related: search.
10. Make sure the site has additional natural links and not only reciprocated links.

I'm sure there are more but thats a start
