Question SEO Noobie - Please help - 301 redirect question

    Hi

I am setting up an offline service and building a website to provide information to my clients. However in order to improve the ranking of the website I am planning to buy some domains with the preffered keywords in domain name and then setting up 301 redirects from those website to my main website.

Is this approach acceptable/recommended? Will this hurt the google ranking?

    Please advise

    Thanks in advance

If they are brand new domain names or domain names that were previously parked (so will have no backlinks) this will not help - at all.

If old domains / previously registered they may help; it depends on the quality/quantity/relevancy of any backlinks to the domain (and is dependant on those backlinks staying in place)!

You will see minimal if any value to point brand new domains at your main site. Better to spend time creating valuable content to use as link bait.

If you found a domain name worth buying, why would you redirect it to your worthless domain name? Why not just use it?
