Scraped Content

How does it affect your site if someone has scraped some of your written page content on to another domain?

If their domain is stronger than yours it might bump you from the SERPS.

That's correct. But not as dangerous as it seems.

Firstly Google is known to in some instances tolerate same content wrapped in different templates/formatting.

Secondly I think this would be a high risk only if Google finds the content of the scraper's website first and then yours and sees it as a duplicate.

Dont you think?

It would be interesting to know if they look at the page time stamp or any date references as well when deciding who is the original source.

My feeling is that it's a mix of factors like anything else with Google (site age, authority, backlinks, date of cache...etc).

Thank you everybody I appreciate your feedback on this subject. I understand there are lots of these scraper programs scouring the internet for content all the time.

I think Google needs to tolerate it somewhat because there are lots of companies using identical descriptions for products.

Another one of my opinions is how can Google compare billions and billions of pages all against eachother, it would be one hell of a massive task! I assume that they break it down in to topics and only compare sites in the same topic with one another.

Please voice any other opinions.

You bet buddy! Its too complex and i guess for a particular page before they tally its ranked in SERP, it will run and go through a million(or even a billion) conditional loops(e.g. if/else, for loop etc etc). Hmm i think if google handed me its algorithm(hard code) and study it, i will become crazy hahahaha....
