The Google Sandbox is a generally accepted -- but possibly mythical -- place where new sites go until Google decides they are not spam sites and will begin to rank them.

I disagree. The sandbox is where sites targeting high-traffic keywords go until they rank well. I recently launched a website into a niche market, and it was #1 the next day. I'm personally of the opinion that the sandbox does not operate as a penalty system. I think this course is natural. Do you seriously think that you're going to rank well in any appreciably small period of time after launching a site that's supposed to compete with the big boys? It only makes sense that your site will be off the map for a while. I think many people confuse this general lack of ranking well for some kind of penalty, the existence of which I vehemently reject. Do you really think that the googlebot looks at a new site and goes "Jesus, who needs another site about handbags? This one's going in the box for a while."

the sandbox may or may not affect your site depending on your sites niche.

I think it's mythical... My site is only 2 months old and is in a very competitive market (website marketing/promotion), it already has a Page Rank of 3... so obviously Google sees some value in it already. |

As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of threads about the sandbox in the Google optimization forum... I'm moving this thread there because the sandbox is not connected to Google PR.
You should search through the forum for previous threads, this has been discussed ad infinitum... but there are a few things you should remember: It has no effect on your Page Rank and it's not a penalty - it's a filter (the difference being that a penalty is applied to a page/site and affects ALL searches, whereas a filter is applied to the search results (as they're served up)... Thus a sandboxed site will still show PR as normal and will rank normally for every other term except those few for which it is "sandboxed"... (normally those will be terms will be highly competitive terms). "Known" causes are too many links - too fast - with anchors which are too similar/identical.

Hi ClickyB My PR just went up from 0 to 3 and my domain is only two months old. I suspect it is from all my backlinks from Yahoo Q&A and other topic related forums as they are highly targeted. Will the quickness of these links coming onto the net affect the Sandbox effect for my site or not? I have a handful of links coming from directories but I don't believe they have much influence on my PR. How does one know if the site is still in the sandbox? Look my friend.. The question you need to ask is ..Can i do anything about it... Good SERPS is a marathon not a sprint. Work on getting good relevant targeted oneway links. The sandbox at worst is a six to nine month delay on the msot competative of your keywords. I frind of mine used to say "It wil or it wont" that is the sandbox effect. The beuty is it is a temporary effect at most. Develop long term strategy Good luck

Gazzahk is dead right - if you can't do anything about it there's no point in worrying about it...
Also - the most important part of the equation is: too many links - too fast - with anchors which are too similar/identical... Unless the anchors are all/most the same (competitive KW's) it most likely won't matter. Quote:
