    Relative vs absolute links

I am reading a lot on google about the relative vs absolute links but I can't find the right answer for:
"Which one is better for SEO to use relative or absolute links?"

or maybe the first I question I should be asking my self is:
"Can that affect the SEO at all?"

    /product.php

I think this differently as we should use the absolute URL. If you write some good content and other webmasters paste your content in their sites as I have seen that on many occasions they don't remove links from the content.
So, If you added absolute URL then you just got some backlinks. But If you added relative links, then they steal your content and posted on their sites then you will receive some broken links from those external resources.

Also use http://forums.seochat.com/search.php...hid=292776&pp= you will get many posts on it.

As I understand its good to have absolute links in the content but does this counts for the menu items, should they be with absolute link?

Yes, I believe so that it counts for menu items as well. Suppose your website is opening with www and without www version and you don't have added canonical tag on website or redirection for the same, and you have mentioned absolute links on content but used relative links in the menu.

Google already indexed all pages of your website with www versions and Google found a link for your website(without www version) from some other website and land to your website and start crawling links on website and found related URLs on menu section so result Google will automatically add all related links to domain(without www) and index all related links as without www version and now Google have same URLs indexed in database with www as well as without www.
