    Relative links -- effect?

    Another newbie question:

Several weeks ago, I added a bunch of pages to my site that were immediately indexed. Not only do they not have PR yet, but they also have no backlinks, even to my PR 7 index.html page that points right at them.

This is a site built in FrontPage, using relative URLs (e.g., newpage.html rather than www.domain.com/newpage.html) for internal linking. Could that be a problem?

Or do I just have to wait for Google to get its database more current?

    Hey Curt Monash,

it can take a while before google add backlinks and PR. The latest update started 2 days ago. You can check for backlinks in the datacenters of google(www.googledance.com). If they are not there you have to wait for the next update, than you will probably have PR and backlinks.

Thanks. I have been very confused about how when to expect the updates, given all the other confusion about what google is doing over the past couple of weeks.

So how do you know that the PR/backlinks update started? How long will it take? How frequent is it?

And should I expect it to boost my rankings, or is PR for SERPS somehow magically calculated before it explicitly shows up on the toolbar?

    Thanks!

always check seochat or check backlinks with www.googledance.com(when you see NEW backlinks, than the new update is going on)

    How long will it take?
can be one/two days, can be a week

    How frequent is it?
    lately, around every month

And should I expect it to boost my rankings
when you changed nothing on your pages; yes

is PR for SERPS somehow magically calculated before it explicitly shows up on the toolbar?
not magically, but yes it is calculated before it shows up in the google toolbar. you can check your NEW PR during a update with the app Abc-PR(http://www.abc-actu.com/abc-pr.html)

hope some things are clear now

So as long as the PR is still at 0 according to that check I can expecting a ranking boost when it gets to its expected value? (No page on my site is below PR 6, except for the PR 0s).

    Great!

Fun little tool! I used it. No problem with the French.

Only one thing -- now I can't check PR on my Google toolbar. I'll close all my browser windows and restart IE before I worry ...

    A lot better! Thanks!

Edit: Yep. Closing and reopening my browser solved the toolbar problem.
