Rec linking dead? anyone know multi linking site?

    Hello

sorry about the rubish title, how to word this question, as it seems the thoery of i give u a link, i'll give u one back.. is not dead, does not seem to do much, unless in great volume ? thats my view

so, one way links, harder to get, is there a place for webmaster who own more then one site, who say,

i have 2 sites, i'll link one, one of yours, and you link that to the another of mine..... so this would look like 1 way links ?

i'm sure theres a name for this, anywhere people can trade this kinda of links, without paying ?

    just wondering

There have been posts from other forum members touting three way exchanges resulting in a one-way link to your site.

The problem I see with this and other link exchange systems is most people participating in them think they are jumping on the latest SEO band wagon.

Many if not most of those people participating don't realize the following:

1.You want to each exchange links with directly related sites.

    2. If those sites have links pages, you want your link to appear in some contextual form (if possible) on a themed page that also matches your theme. So...you want a link from a themed site and also a themed links page. This is called enhancing your co-citation which I have posted about repeatedly before.

    3. Your want your desired anchor text to be varied and reflect multiple search terms you desire higher rankings for.

Can you find that in a link exchange system? Yes...but the amount of time you spend filtering requests and making sure they meet your criteria is probably not worth the ROI and you'd be better off paying someone to do it for you and you give them your criteria (IMO).

I'm sure someone will post one or two of these exchange systems in another response.

Its called 3-way-link-exchange. It can get you in trouble too.
Reciprocal linking is not dead just dis valued. MSN has lately banned sites for link exchanging with irrelevant sites. There algo isn't good enough to find them all but they are threatening and have banned some.
If you link exchange do it with related sites. Getting one-way links is hard if your site is common and lacks uniqueness and quality. Shopping cart sites are like this.
You could hire someone to write some articles and submit them to article directories for some backlinks. This does help some. Directories are also one-way links but again dis valued to a certain degree.

Ya... most of the web is made from recips... the "intent" wasn't so much as "I'll link if you do"... they just happened to find each other valuable for their own strategy.

The only problem with recip... doing only that!

what google says on their site.

This is copied from the google web site....

Keep in mind that our algorithms can distinguish natural links from unnatural links. Natural links to your site develop as part of the dynamic nature of the web when other sites find your content valuable and think it would be helpful for their visitors. Unnatural links to your site are placed there specifically to make your site look more popular to search engines...

This is all well and good if your site is a PR 7 and you consistently come up in the top 5. These top sites will get many one way links from other sites hoping to receive a link back.
So in effect what google is doing is rewarding the sites at the top and giving them an unfair advantage.

So my new strategery is to make sure my site is useful to visitors. Make sure there is new and useful free information.
Make sure I link only to sites I think will be interesting to my visitors. Work hard to promote the site in other ways such as advertising and watching forums and new groups and offering my services when requested.

We are advancing on yahoo and msn and hopes are this will help to bring a extra traffic boost.

This is exactly why many of the top posters here say content is king! This is easier to do for some industries than others but make your web site a destination and people will link to it! Will they link using the anchor text you want them to use......as the Beatles said, "I'll get by with a little help from my friends."
