Re Kampyle & Google rules
Hi - newbie here - Hope this is ok to post.
The exit popup from feedback company Kampyle is
a hover-ad(I believe it uses layers). Could Google bots or human mods
penalize a site using it as it is basically
a kind of pop-up that appears when the visitor
tries to leave the site/page.

People - on the other hand - might just "penalise" a website for that. I mean: who is ever going to link out (spontaneously) to a website that produces annoying popups?

Agreed, google might ignore it but your user will be pissed and annoyed - I know I would/am when I see them.

PPC threat
It's precisely the PPC aspect I was concerned about.
I saw the Matt Cutts thingy but how can Google have terms of service - quality score etc - which simply MUST be largely automated given the sheer volume of pages/updates etc and not sniff out DIV tags, layers & stuff like that?
If Google don't mind Layer-effect popups then that contradicts loads of other stuff I've heard!
I've asked Kampyle directly several times but they have been evasive so far.
The live help is run by sales people who don't know the difference between a div tag and a hole in the ground.
I know they need sales people but not for a support role!

Decent content but adwords & exit pop don't mix?

Silly question maybe: is there any content to your website or is it purely MFA?
Sorry - I meant adWords - doh!
Well, in my case there is only a feedback icon but no exit-pop. Loads of great content tho ;-) so no arbitrage cos no ads. However, the number of people clicking on - and completing - the site survey is extremely small <.1% so offering this as a service to clients will be hard as they'll get hardly any feedback but have the overhead of the monthly rental of the hosted survey.
However, the ultimate aim would be to offer clients Kampyle-as a reseller - but I don't want to do it if their PPC campaign will get nailed by Google. Kampyle seems like the latest greatest thing and certainly the feedback is useful but their exit (hover) ad is still an exit hover ad - whichever way you slice it...
Cheers,
Mike

Natural & PPC
In my case, I tried Kampyle for a week on my own site, didn't like their fees so wrote my own script.
But my script is written like a pig and I'd not be too keen to resell it - when Kampyle is the clear market leader with all the bells and whistles & kudos.
So the upshot is, do you think Kampyle can affect my clients' natural ranking or PPC given what it does?

Kampyle Reply
Hi - here's the reply I got to my question from Kampyle about hover-ads(layers)
"Ok…
first of all, Kampyle doesn’t use a pop-up. The “push invitation” basically covers the window (it does not open in a different window) – so it is not a pop-up.
Further proof: the Kampyle push window is not blocked by pop-up blockers.
The Feedback form window will only open if the user chooses to click “YES”, meaning – that is was pressed directly.
If it still causes concerns, let the customer know he does not have use the push. He can use only the button to receive Feedback.”
What they call "push" is a hover ad - based on layers or something similar. True - it's not a new window but it is still identical to one of those layers that appears when people try and leave a page. It doesn't change the fact that it is a pop-up 'type' hover ad. I had hoped that they'd have given a direct quote from Google about it - seeing as it links up to their analytics...
