    Rare 301 redirect situation

Recently we build a brand new webshop and redirected all the old webshop to the new one.

    Our new webshop is multilanguage/multidomain:

    for example:

    www.newwebshop.com (english language)
    www.newwebshop.de (german language)
    www.newwebshop.fr (french language)

Our old webshop is just one domain.

We redirected the 200 most important pages to the new webshop and regained our rankings for 3 days, then they dropped out of the serps.

This is how we did the redirects.

    www.oldwebshop.com/product_languagefr
    redirected to
    www.newwebshop.fr/product_languagefr

    www.oldwebshop.com/product_languagede
    redirected to
    www.newwebshop.de/product_languagede

    and so one.

So we redirected from one domain to multiple domains. Did this caus the drop in rankings? We went from 2K a day to 100 visitors a day.

Hope somebody will help us. We are in panic at the moment,

Were they 301 redirects? Are you sure?
Did you confirm they are in fact redirecting?
Did you configure your GWT to indicate a site has been moved?

    • Swirleigh → agrees: Yes, she needs to make sure they are 301 redirects and NOT 302s.

    Hi Joshz

Yes they are redirects, (i checked the header status) and we did a change of address of the old website to the new one.

But the redirects went to multiple domains but the change of address went to one domain. There is no option to tell we moved to multiple domains.

I think the SEO company made a mistake to redirect to different domains. This is not naturel i geuss.

Jenny you have posted numerous times about this, no offence but with such a large scale of redirects I think it's time to hire someone to do the job properly for you.

If I were you id look no further than Joshz to sort it out, his technical knowledge is excellent.

I don't think with all the advice in the world from here you will be able to do all the redirects on your own to pass on all the value of your old sites and get your rankings back.

Bite the bullet, hire a professional, get it done properly.

    Hello Darren,

Yes you are right, but we hired a SEO company to do the redirects but after 3 days with superb rankings we lost them all.

I searched over the internet for many weeks now, and i can`t find any good company/person that is able to help us.

This is a complex case and if there is someone/company out here who wants to help us, please, please contact us?

But what do you think about redirecting out to multiple domains.
    Isn`t it wrong to do?

    Its just you tell Google:

    I moved A to B , C and D

Joshz asked if they are 301 redirects, and you responded that Yes, they redirect. That is not a complete answer.

The important thing to find out is if they are 301 directs and NOT 302 redirects. Google follows and passes link juice to 301s but not 302s. So it is important you make sure your site is using the correct redirect method.

So we redirected from one domain to multiple domains.
Your that gardening shop with 4 or 5 partners...right?
(my memory could be bad too)

    What you posted here:

    www.oldwebshop.com/product_languagefr
    redirected to
    www.newwebshop.fr/product_languagefr

    www.oldwebshop.com/product_languagede
    redirected to
    www.newwebshop.de/product_languagede

    and so one.

So we redirected from one domain to multiple domains.
doesn't look to be the same thing you mentioned Here :

    For example:

    Our old webshops

(www. old webshop number 1 .nl)
    (www. another name webshop2 .com)
    (www. again other webshop3 .net)
    (www. different name again4 .net)
    (www. webshop number5 .net)

Should we redirect every website to the new .com main webshop or should we split up the 301 redirects to the different domains. And use the most powerfull old domainname to redirect to our English version www. plantsandherbs example .com

    (www. gardenproducts example .nl)
    (www. gardenproducts example .de)
    (www. gardenproducts example .de)
    (www. gardenproducts example .es)
    (www. gardenproducts example .fr)
    (www. gardenproducts example .com)
Or I'm just not understanding you correctly.

    Hi Swirleigh,

Yes i checked the redirects, and the are 301 permanent redirects. I checked them with HTTP/Header check

    HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently =>
    Date => Tue, 07 Aug 2012 05:47:36 GMT
    Server => Apache/2

i think the main question is.

Is is possible to redirect from one single domain to other multiple domains.

No this is correct, but to keep it simple i asked for one domain. In fact the SEO company did this with the 3 most important domains from us.

So the redirect from each single domain out to new pages on multiple domains.

So pages at domain A redirects to pages on domain D, E, F
And domain B redirects to pages on domain D, E, F
And domain C redirects to pages on domain D, E, F

Al other old domains (small websites) were redirected to the root
    of domain D, E, F and even G, H, I

Well it looks to me like their giving 33.3 percent to 3 different sites...that'll do it (talkin about the drop)

Just out of curiosity where did you find this SEO company? And what made your decision to pick them? If you don't mind.

If you'd like, you can PM me the URL and a few sample URL's that are suppose to redirecting. I'll take a look - I have a few minutes to kill this morning.
