    Ranking Optimization for Google+ Local

    Hello,

Since Google Places is slowly switching over to Google+ Local (new accounts are signed up with Google+ Local instead of the old Places dashboard), I've noticed the categories can't be customized anymore and we're able to add more than ten photos.

For those using the new Google+ Local, what things have you changed in your SEO strategy to get your listings ranking? I've noticed it is a bit tougher to get the Places listings ranking lately so any tips would be fantastic.

For those still using the old Google Places, have you changed anything about your SEO strategy? What do you find to be most important to your Places strategy?

    Thank you!

I found my google places is automatically switching to Google local, and no need to go for any changes with existing places account. Communities will play a main role as groups in facebook, wil improve social traffic.

Your current listings are updating to the new dashboard? Some of mine are still the old Places dashboard.

Sorry I've not been here forever. Just saw this in my Feedreader.

All new accounts get the new dash. Old accounts are slowly being transitioned, but many do not have it yet.

Have posted a lot about all the various issues at my place, but in a nutshell, correct that you can only enter default cats with the new dash. Image, you can always upload as a user to add more but not sure why you'd need more than 10.

Also when you get new dash data updates are much faster and you can't just REclaim a listing like you could in past if cleint can't remember log in or another SEO claimed it. This will eliminate tons of problems consultants were having with dual claimed listings and hidden merged dupes BUT will be an extra hoop to jump through because you'll need to CALL Google support. (If you are in a country that has phone support - otherwise use troubleshooter.)

Good to know about the old and new dashboard. I'm actually more fond of the new one than the old one. Like you mentioned, the updates are faster. I like that the new dashboard also tells you the time the changes were saved. I've had to call Google over duplicate listings before, or listings that have been claimed and changes aren't taking place because of other accounts also having control of the listing. Google will actually remove the other person if they have't logged in in x-amount of months. They won't tell you what email address it is, but just something to keep in mind.

The default categories kind of make listing for a certain service a client offers more complicated. (I think it is tile and grout cleaner that doesn't have a default category in the new Places dashboard.)

Is there something you've changed to your Places strategy? Any tips you can offer to a fairly new SEO would be a great help.
