    ranking for keywords

I sell real estate in a large metro area. Instead of trying to rank for the metro area, Ive been told to try and rank a page that has an area or neghborhood or suburb of the city. What is the best way to do that? Would I build backlinks for that page?

It depends on how competitive the key phrase is. First build a landing page with unique text and make certain all the on-page elements of SEO are there including: title element, header tags and others. Then link to this new page from the text in your home page.

This might be all you need to do. If you need links please learn the difference between a good link and a spam link then have at it.

I would build links for your local area and the larger areas, your going to rank for your local area long before the larger metro areas because of the competition, which you can still rank in, it's just going to take you a much longer time, along with that poor link building for any area can hurt more than it can help, so don't fall for those cheap link schemes, 99.9 of them will get your site slapped, then it takes that much longer to get back to square one and start again...if it looks to good to be true..it is! It's a timing and numbers game.
