Question about linking through pages on same server/hosting plan

quick questions, I did a search b/c I thought we covered this but came out empty.

Long story short, we have a main company site that I'm working on, plus we have 2 blogs and 2 'sister' company sites, about 6 sites total. all have different domains, but hosted on the same plan, thus share the same IP.

question is: with linking the pages together and placing links to each other website hurt my serps or qualify me as spam?

So essentially each (besides the main site) would have links point to one and another.

I heard having links from teh same IP can hurt you, but even if it's 6? any advice/suggestions?

I wouldn't think 6 sites linking form the same IP would do and damage to your seo or rankings, as long as you link as you would if you didn't own all the sites and only link for relevance and not spam, you shouldn't be done for spam.

Think how many sites are hosted on shared hosting on most servers from all hosting companies in the world. Its most likely that a lot of people are linking to some sites on the same IP without even knowing.

I did read some months back when I was looking for information on these lines that a small amount of lets call them "sister sites" should be fine linking up as its all relevant and not a link farm (I think I was told this on google webmaster support forums thingy)

Yeah, I mean company does electrical stuff, the other more manual stuff, so it's all relative, just a little different. There are maybe 10 links total per site. Linking to the appropriate page/category.

Its worth waiting for some of the other to reply just to make sure what I said is the best advice but I have not had any problems with interlinking in the past as long as I stuck to relevant sister sites.

Does anyone know how shared hosting is handled, where 100s of domains share the same IP address? Is it viewed completely different than if I was to host a few domains off of my own IP address?

joshz, unless it's done on a grand scale (hundreds or even thousands of sites on the same server interlinking), so long as it's reasonable/natural it's ok. As all 6 sites are topic related, there's no risk there. Will those links be as valuable as truly external links? Probably not, but you're not going to be penalized for spam in something like this.
