Quality of Links in Google's eyes

Besides PR and age of links, the text to link ratio may indicate the quality of links

    1) links in articles may be treated as high quality links
    2) links in directories (with rich descriptions) is next
    3) links without text description (many forum links) may have the lowest quality.

Is it in the patent application, or are we expecting this to appear in the next version (sorry, I still haven't read that pat.app.)?

Anyway, I've got a hunch you're right, but I don't know why exactly... I always surround my links with at least a tiny bit of regular text

i think you're right about this.. i read a thread a long time ago where someone tested this theory and proved it accurate.

(for those who don't want to read the whole patent application there's a quick summary at www.tg9.net)

It was a theory from observations, and confirmed by some tests.

I noticed some older sites with about 50-100 high quality links rank top 10 for some very competitive keywords in Google. This doesn't work for Yahoo and MSN
