Privacy policy question

Hi everyone, I have an issue about "privacy policy" and mister Google.

I've read often than Google encourages webmasters to place a "privacy policy" on their websites.

Actually adsence users received an email requiring them to add a privacy policy.

How does Google know we have a privacy policy on our sites. Does he checks the page title? Or is there a protocol that we have to follow to create a privacy policy?

Could anyone illuminate me on this subject?

Thanks in advanced,

There is a privacy policy protocol called P3P however the vast majority of websites don't use it -- it tends only to be used by larger corporations.

Google can work out what is and isn't a privacy policy page. It'll invariably be linked using "privacy" in the anchor text, possibly it'll be labelled privacy.php or something similar, and will likely have "privacy policy" in the title and in the text. You'd have to try really hard to make a privacy policy look like anything other than a privacy policy.

Will it help you rank higher? Unlikely. It may add a little trustworthiness to the site, but I can't see it being enough to influence your real-world ranks.

Put it there for the users by all means, but don't look to get a SERPs boost from it or you'll be disappointed.

In my case I deal most of the time with portuguese website. So, I have to place a link sayng "politica de privacidade" instead of privacy policy

Hope that Google knows the translation

I know, sometimes I scare myself. It may have been some kind of childhood trauma
