    Hey,...
Just had the same problem last month the answer is CSS

if you don't know css just use this command in your html website that will tell then printer to take out a new page<div style="page-break-before:always"> </div>

actually, every forum will also be penalized, at the very least every IPB forum that uses the Lo-FI forum.

    Makes no sense at all.

    You wont get penalized...

Easiest way to do it, though, is just make sure your printer-friendly versions are linked to using rel="nofollow"

and the meta-tags on those pages have noindex and nofollow tags. This way, only your real versions get indexed and your users can still access a printer friendly version.

A better alternative is to create PDF pages for everything that is likely to be printed out.

Web Pages were never inteded to be printed, hence the very limited support.

Most people have adobe acrobat PDF viewer - it is free to download and is platform independant.

Many product sites utilise PDF product downloads to be printed out - they seam to do especialy well. I think the content in these files is not considered to be duplicate. I have used this on a couple of sites and it has had bennefits (due to additional document resource) rather than problems.

Creating PDF's for a large, complex website with constantly changing data is silly. Plus, asking a user to download a page is just another step many are unlikely to take. You program your website to make it easy on your users -- when they hit CTRL+P, make it easy on them.

Create two headers & footers -- one for web and one for print, and then use CSS to determine which one to show. If you have any on-page block elements that should not be printed, make a DoNotPrint class in your CSS so they are excluded from the printable view.

Not only is this a helluva lot easier (and much less time consuming) than manually generating PDF's of every page, or writing code to generate PDF's, you have much more flexability in what gets printed and you will have provided a MUCH more friendly website to your users (you know... the people that PAY THE BILLS).
