I actually just did a similar presentation and had 30 minutes available with a small group that knew a little about SEO. Even with that much time, I didn't get a chance to discuss even half of the list given by new_seo as there I had to explain the background of why and how it came about first.
Please clarify if this isn't the case, but if you're presenting what SEO is to a group who won't use it themselves (and since you said they don't have any foundation on the subject), then 10 minutes is just about enough time to say that SEO is onsite efforts and link building with a small explanation of each. If this is a presentation purely on SEO, I would skip SEM now and have later presentation for it. Teaching both to an uneducated audience will only confuse them in such a short time. If you do need to explain a little of both SEO and SEM, then you'll really need to have handouts for them to read later at their leisure. It would likely be most productive to skip most of the tactics and just explain the purpose for now. Last edited by Roa : June 27th, 2008 at 10:34 AM. |

10 Minutes is quite a long time for a presentation if its just an overview.
If you prepare materials with screen shots and live interaction you can convey a lot of information in a short time. I just gave a presentation on Web Site Analytics, I kept it short and sweet and that was about 5 minutes. I had pre planed case studies and reports saved. Not meaning to sound bad but, if you have to give a presentation on SEO, why do you need to come and ask people what basic things to mention?

I suggest the course outline below: 2 minutes: What is SEO? 3 minutes: Importance of Keyword Research. 1.5 minutes: Incorporating keywords in content: Importance of relevant content 1.5 minutes: Keywords in Links: Importance of having organic link 2 minutes: Benefits of SEO I think it is possible, even someone without SEO knowledge will be eager to learn more from that short presentation.

FYI this post has little to do with Google itself. I would opt not to focus on 'keywords' or 'keywords in content'. To me that may be over their heads. MOst good SEOs do great keyword tracking, however, the point behind it all is simply to find where your market is and what they search. There is a process to find this out, keyword data isn't the only means. You need to perhaps write content in target field and see what people like. I would opt for: What is SEO Why the Firm Needs it Ideas of how to implement: Include TWO things: GREAT content and regular content updates GREAT targeted web links. Benefits of SEO (why bother.) You're not talking to SEOs or programmers, probably managers. Speak their language. If you only have 10 minutes don't dare put in any SEO jargon like 'keywords' or 'SERPs', etc. |
