    "Powered By" Links

Since the Penguin update focuses much of its energy on diversified anchor text, does anyone know the status of 'powered by' links? This is obviously a common practice and my company assists thousands of websites that use our themes which include 'powered by <company link>' so should I worry about getting slapped due to this?

This is not even completely in regards to the recent update. Anyone know if this is something that is at all frowned upon by google/yahoo/bing? Any suggestions if that may be the case?

From my experience those one way links will not hurt you, but how much benefits you will get from those is doubtful to me. Let's see what other says.

this links won't hurt your ranking as well as not help you to rank better. WHY? Because these are the footer links and Google doesn't give much priority to sitewide (blogroll)/footer links. IMO Google highly affects/consider the links which is vivid with text, ideally in the main content area.

Even before I was exposed to SEO, these "powered by____" websites are not targets or frowned upon by Google or Yahoo even. It's going to be less of your worries as of now.

I've used "Designed by" "Developed by" etc. for 5 years on all of my clients site. I do NO SEO work to my personal sites what so ever, and I rank for decent keywords.

Unless I stop ranking, I'm poised to believe that footer links CAN and DO carry SOME weight.

This seems similar to another post where SEOAM?? said that as long as G has one brain left they will know when you give links to yourself. If these types do any good at all, I'd be seriously surprised. I have some PR5 clients and I don't use them. Dumb me I guess. I see them more as advertising.
Frankly, I wonder who Frank is and why he has his own adverb.

Hey, I would I was reading over at SEOMOZ that they have seen allot of web design companies getting hit from this, just in the last update, so I would recommend that you mix it up. I know I will be.

I swear to you, I do NO SEO work on my personal sites and they rank. Just from crappy footer links that say "Design work by" or "Atlanta Keyword".

They don't bring in much traffic, but hell, they still do rank and those are the only links pointing to my sites.

Are the links going to your sites on the same IP as the website giving the link?

I have 100's of back links from previous clients(Designed by ______). However, because they are on the same IP it has made little difference to SEO for me.

I can't tell for fact, but I would assume they're all different IP's since I do not do hosting. Some are on Godaddy, Hostgator, etc.

So, yeah, all different IPs, I'm sure 1 or 2 out of the 100's of sites I've designed might share the same IP but... No, it's not like I have a shared hosting and hosting client sites.

Even if Google did pay attention to these kind of links, I still wouldn't worry. Rules about anchor are there to effect spammers, which build links in the 50,000 plus.

As it has already been mentioned, sitewide links are given almost zero priority so they are useless and inconsequential.

I really wish you people would conduct your own tests and experiments to conclude the positive or negative gains with links and various SEO items.

You reading this on a forum, that was published on a blog, that was spun around an article site does not make it true.

Keep believing that. In fact, tell my competition that, too.
