Poor Google results question

I have a site www.us-passport-visa.com that is a passport & visa expediting service. I have attempted to optimize for the phrase "us passport". I have also established quite a few reciprocal links with other relevant sites.

I don't remember the exact dates, but I submitted the site to Google during the first week of December. I completed most of the reciprocal links around 12/15/02.

A few of my pages have shown up in Google under other keywords (like "international drivers license"), but my site doesn't appear at all under "us passport" or "passport".

I'm not sure if I was too late to be included in the January update or if my site is so poor that it doesn't even show up in the index. I hope I missed the update.

At this point I'm trying to figure out if I need to do something else or if I should just wait for the February update.

I understand when the dance occurs, but is there another cutoff that I am unaware of? I'm pretty sure googlebot found my site (I don't have access to my logfiles), so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Also, I am considering moving to another host. Is there any time of the month that would be the best time based on Google activities?

I would appreciate any advice.

Graydon

Here's what I found

I tested cut off in December. The last page I got in was one I put up on December 3.

Still I did a site:www.us-passport-visa.com us-passport-visa.com

and these pages showed up in the index

www.us-passport-visa.com/
www.us-passport-visa.com/passport_visa_copyright.htm
www.us-passport-visa.com/passport_travel_resources.htm
www.us-passport-visa.com/visa.htm
www.us-passport-visa.com/ international_drivers_license.htm
www.us-passport-visa.com/links/

Hope this helps,

John Gergye

hello gtrusler,

You probably want to re-think your choice of key words.
If you do a google search for us passport, you will see that there are 2,050,000 other sites that are competing for the same words (you are number 328). Not too shabby if you ask me but who's going to look that deep? The listing was taken right from the home page.

A search on international drivers license on the other hand only produces 296,000 related sites (congratulations you are listed at 27).

You will notice that they used your "meta" description for the listing.

The question to me would be... How many people are searching for the phrases that you are being found for (34534 for us passport) and (6948 for international drivers license). Try it yourself... http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
I used overture but I think you can also use google adwords although it seems cumbersome to me.

Now do you want to spend the time (and money) to get listed for us passport, or do you want to optimize your site for international drivers license)? Or, are there other terms that you are being found for or that you can optimize for.

If you spend some time with it, I am sure you can get better rankings with both.

I did a search for US Passport Processing and you came up 193 unfortunatly I didn't find anyone searching for that term.

I also did a search on US Passports and Visas (your number 7) but only 37 people have searched for that term over the last month.

I took those search terms right from your heading by the way. So, I think you need to find a term that does not have too much competition, and has a good number of people doing searches on it, place those terms in your heading and scatter them about your page.

I could find the right term(s) for you but as yo can see it's a lot of work.
I would be more than willing to work with you on this. PM me if you want more details.

Brian

so your whole site wasn't uploaded when google crawled it? in that case the only thing you can do is to wait for the next crawl and dance... almost sounds like a country line dancing song...lmao

about changing your host, how about leaving a mirror up for a month and then taking it down, would that hurt? that way you aren't going to go down, or copy the entire site to the new servers, but with an addition to the url... like youir site is http://www.us-passport-visa.com/ change it to http://www.us-passport-visa.com/move on the new server and when you shut down the site on the old server change it back to http://www.us-passport-visa.com/

Site Map Should get all of your pages indexed

I would add a site map to your website and then submit it to google. Google will follow all the links and be able to index all of your pages. I noticed you said your links were in place. I am not sure what you meant by this. Anytime you add a link to a site that relates to your website pages the pages should be resubmitted to google. Sometimes this speeds up the process.
Hope this helps
