placing ad linked post to my site

I have a news website on technology subjects. I was contacted by someone who said he likes to post a permanent article on my site, which will include a few links to normal places but one link to his client's site, which is a casino and bingo site. He will hire someone to write an original article also that has related content to my site. He will pay me a reasonable amount of money for each article.

My website is an 8 year old technology news website all with original decent content, or press releases from many big firms. It has hundreds of articles inside accumulated over the years.

My question is, if I do this, does it harm my website ranking on Google or other search engines? Is this a bad practice? If so, does it hurt to place one or a few articles anyway?

Hello! Good to see a longtime user posting with us again

I don't know what Google's "tipping point" is, but this sounds like textbook link buying - which is against their guidelines. If this guy is linking to a bingo/casino site from your tech website, it's also not so good for you because those sound like pretty unrelated topics.

The price of paying you to put this article up is probably outweighed in his mind by whatever he estimates the long-term benefits of that link will be (for him, not you). But that's me speculating.

Other folks around here might have better advice. It sounds dangerous to me, personally.

Well, paying someone to add a like to your site is strictly against google's terms. If the article he is writing about helps your readers, then I wouldn't worry about it. Google just cares about the content, really. Although if he says that he will include links to "normal" places and add a link to his client's site, this means that he is no expert towards your niche and is only bribing you. Authority websites only link to other authority websites.
