Question Permanent Redirection and Google Rankings

Hello All,

I have a website (say www. abc. com). Recently, I uploaded a modified version of my site at www. abc. com/main/index.html and applied permanent redirection to it. Now, I have a query regarding off page optimization of my website. What URL i should use for acquiring back links for my site. Should I use http://www. abc. com (Which has a permanent redirection to http://www. abc. com/main/index.html) OR use http://www. abc. com/main/index.html. Please tell me links to which URL would be help me in improving my ranking over google?

Both work, since due to the permanent redirect, you can consider the old url an alias for the new one. However, since you know the new url, you could and should use that one whenever you want a link to it.

Redirect it Permanently, and all your previous links made for the old URl will get counted for the new and within a gap of certain updates, you will see the position for the new pages as well

Just get links pointing straight to your new page....linking to your old page will just take more time for the link juice to kick in as it has to go through the redirect.

Did the exact same thing for one of my domains when I found it to be a trademark infringement, redirected and within 4 days google updated the serps with my new domain name. I didn't loose any SERPS and have been adding links to my new domain with no problem.
