    Page Rank Issue

What can I do to improve page rank (PR) on my site. It seems if google chooses the page it has ranked the highest. How can I get the page I want, ranked the highest?

Welcome to the forum, come back and read this post again after your 50th post and you'll be amazed at how far you've come. Page rank is a measure of backlinks, it has nothing to do with content. The more and the better backlinks you get the higher your page rank will go. but keep in mind that page rank is not continuously updated so you have to wait until google updates pagerank to see the results and reap the benefits of any increases. The main benefit of page rank is ease of finding link trading partners. PR doesnt do anything in and of itself, it just entices good sites to link with you. Good luck, their's enough info here to become a pro if you put the time in.

Typically Google ranks your site in a tiered fashion.
    front page - PR4
    2nd tier pages - PR3
    3rd tier pages - PR2

And so on. This isn't true 100% of the time, but generaly speaking this is how most sites rank.

I was able to get higher rankings on my internal pages my moving them into the root (anotherwords, 2nd tier).

A little while later Google crawled and those pages got a higher rank.

    Is it possible?

I don't know if it's possible to get a page ranked higher than your home page. I've seen them the same many times, but never higher.

If anybody has an example of this ever happening could you post it?

It would be interesting to see what their code looks like and the backlinking they have.

they shouldn't rank higher than your homepage, they should rank in place of it. your homepage can't possibly rank for all your terms as effectively as targeted subpages could, otherwise why would you need them?

Well... I had just a homepage, but the site looked so... wimpy.

    So I added a sitemap.

    Hi AltherrWeb,

I found an example for you:

    My homepage: http://www.alpha tickets.com 4/10
    3 links deep: http://www.alpha tickets.com/football-tickets/College/auburn-alabama-11-19-05.htm 5/10

Can I get some agreements for this one?

By the way, that 5/10 page has no backlinks

Happens all the time. Index page does not have to be higher than sub pages.

    PR "Mistakes"

Sometimes Google makes a PR "mistake". For instance a new site of mine was given a PR 2 on the homepage this week, while all secondary pages were given 4's. That doesn't make any sense because the vast majority of relevant BL's are directed to the homepage.

The only good news is that when a mistake like this is made it tends to be corrected in the next PR update.

Never say that. Every indexed page has at least one backlink, most have more...

PS: internal backlinks are backlinks just the same, only (usually) a bit less powerful...
