Organic Google traffic Yoyo

Hi,

Just after some ideas as to why this might be happening:

w3.screenshots.cc/original/9731/b5nst
w3 = www

It is a SS of organic Google traffic for an established site. The norm is to get between 100 - 150 visitors from google a day...then the last few months the site keeps on getting dropped for a few days...then gets back in and so on.

I keep asking for a request in google web master tools, but I don't think that is actually doing anything.

I haven't done any blackhat on the site....

Any ideas as to why traffic would just drop off like that on an established PR 4 site?

Cheers

hmmm Could be a data centre issue. Maybee you site is not on some data centres or a new site is appearing much higher on some data centres and when people are accessing those you are no longer ranked very well. If this is the case then this is a worry as it may be that this data centre will propogate...

Does the drop coincide with weekends?

It may also just be a glitch in the analytics program.

Have you noticed anything esle when these changes happen ie less sales etc..

hmm

It's not a weekend thing...and it's an Adsense site and clicks drop off at the same time as the Google organic traffic.

It's not a being out ranked thing... because it comes and goes...and when it isn't ranking it doesn't rank for things like the site name which isn't a competitive keyword term.

Aggressive link building was a suggestion from a friend... I am not so sure.

Sounds like a data centre thing. You site may have been dropped from some data centres.

What do you mean by "agressive link building"..

I have recently picked up 3 site wide links on other sites 100-1000's indexed pages... and done a lot of link building... some people believe if you build too many links too fast it looks spammy and your site gets flagged...aggressive link building....

Unatural linking patterns it is believed by some can cause human investigation by google spam team. If that investigation then leads the human to believe that you are attempting to manipulate SERPs it may lead to a penalty. It is the human that causes the penalty not the links. Still it is a possible explaination. You may have been penalised and dropped from the first set of data centres. Over time if this is the case you may dissapear from all the data centres.

I would not do anything yet but wait and see if the probelm solves itself.

This looks like a normal situation except when it drops and never goes up again. I suggest you will double check the site for accidental changes.

Also check your analytics for your ranking keywords before and how it behaves now. It can give a clue as to where those affected pages are or whether the problem is sitewide.

Maybe the competition in that field is hot, and there are some other sites with almost the same level of SEO. Google can't decide which is obviously better, and it think change their ranks by turn is a sensible method.
