Optimizing Two Related Websites

I have a main (ecommerce) website and a second website which is just an information site with a fair amount of related content. Both are PR3 sites and are hosted separately. I would like to use the second site to boost my main website in the SERPS and have added several links with keyword anchor text. My question is what is the optimum number of links. Is it a case of the more the better?

Richard.

Thank you. Is that one link for the site or one link per page? I understand that multiple links would dilute the available pagerank, but is there not an advantage to using additional links with different anchor text keywords? Would I be penalised for multiple links? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I'm not sure that I fully understand all this.

Richard.

If the two sites are so closely related that the only difference is one sells the other provides info, they should really be in one site. Then you would not have this issue or would you have to optimise two sites.

The ecommerce site has its own content already. The other site has separate, but related content and I wanted to keep it sepatate, but use it to boost the ranking of the ecommerce site as much as possible. I'm still unclear about the benefits of using a single link vs multiple links with a range of keywords.

Richard.
