Question Optimizing Internal Links "Home" question

Instead of making internal links to my home page point to "Home" I would like to optimize with my target phrase (who wants to optimize for "home"?).
For Example if my target phrase was "Chicago insurance" my internal link text to main page would be "Chicago Insurance" or "Chicago Insurance Home"

    Is this a good strategy?
What if I mixed it up with another phrase, ie some links as "Chicago Auto Insurance" & some as "Chicago Life Insurance". Would that dilute it?

I would make it keyword phrase home, where keyword phrase is the link, and home isn't.

I would agree, just using the keyword phrase would be corny looking and make it look like your more into spamming than presenting a user friendly site.

better yet, if you did a redirect to /home.html. i would think that would boost you on top of that.

memphiz is right ... you can play with words some way to fit your needs and in the same time to help you optimize your internal links to the home page

well, make a judgement call - if a site only has a few subpages in their root then using this home anchor is pointless. Agreed! However, with hundreds or thousands of subpages we're talking brute force with definite impact on your ranking!

You can make it less spammy by creating a uniform look for your users, I guess:

    <a href="..."><font color="#0000CC">Chicago Insurance</font></a><font color="#0000CC">
    Home</font>

Here's what I've done on my site -here's a random sub page: http://www.cypanda.com/search-engine...essentials.htm (work in progress)- I have a javascript breadcrumb trail at the top and a header link pointing to the homepage with >Home< as anchor.

Bottom and footer contain link to root with my two keywords as anchor. I think it works... but what's your oppinion.. does it look spammy/ bad navigation? By the way, I'm calling the header links containing the Home link (w/o keywords in anchor) via javascript...
