Question Is optimizing "carpets" the same as "carpet"?

Sorry If my Title is kind of confusing. I have to disguise my
keywords with xxx's. I have been working
on optimizing my site xxxshoe-mgk.com for the keyword
xxxshoe xxxcleaner. Im finding that alot of searches are
made for xxxshoes xxxcleaner with an "S" as people look
for a specific type of xxxshoes xxxcleaner as in xxxgolf
xxxshoes xxxcleaner. So my question is, on my site, can I
optimize for xxxshoes xxxcleaner and be equally optimized
for the keyword xxxshoe xxxcleaner w/out the extra "s"?

Yes and no. Yes, the major search engines have made strides in word stemming. No, there's often a distinct difference in the delivery of SERPs for plurals....ie "shoe" vs. "shoes". In search phrases that are 3 and 4 words deep, you'll see that they are treated much more similarly.

Use the allinanchor and allintext tools to see how your vertical plays out.

Sure can, actually you should do both. The plural form of the word toe cleaner should most likely pull more traffic, and the singular slightly less. But it depends on your market and industry. Some may search for one and not the other. When creating the content of your page use the variety of singular and plural through out. Google is rather intelligent and will most likely rank you for both should you have the links to contribute to the ranking. Use the most searched upon term, should it prove the most relevant (such as do you offer one toe cleaner or many toe cleaning products?) in your title. Expand through out the site.

Also lets see if we can rank for toe cleaner instead of XXXX cleaners. hehe.
