One reply from Google about Rankings

I emailed Google weeks ago about an extreme decrease in ranking and at one point even not finding my website on any results. I did ask if my website was banned or at least penalized.

Here is a reply i received today. And sorry if something like that has already been posted:

    Hi <name removed>,

Thank you for your note. Results in our index change regularly based on
ongoing, automated processes aimed at improving the quality and content of
our search results. Changes you may observe include, but are not limited
to, addition of new sites, changes in the ranking of existing sites, sites
falling out of the index or getting dropped and site's content fluctuating
    between old and new content.

We realize these changes can be confusing. However, as stated above, these
processes are completely automated and not indicative of wrong-doing or
penalization of individual sites. Inclusion and ranking in Google is a
free service. We currently include over 3 billion pages in our index and
it is certainly our intent to represent the content of the Internet fairly
and accurately. The ongoing changes you have observed are part of this
    effort.

While there are no guarantees that your page will consistently appear in
our index or appear with a particular rank, we do offer guidelines on our
website for building a "crawler-friendly" site. You can find these
    guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html . Following
these guidelines may increase the likelihood that your site will show up
    consistently in Google search results.

In addition, please note that we do not manually assign keywords to your
site, nor do we manipulate the ranking of your site in our search results.
This process is completely automated and depends on a page's PageRank. For
more information on how Google ranks websites, please see
    www.google.com/technology/index.html .

We hope the information we have provided above is helpful to you. Due to
the tremendous volume of information and help requests we receive, we are
not always able to provide personal attention to questions pertaining to
individual websites. If this response did not adequately resolve your
question, we hope that you will visit the webmaster section of our site at
http://www.google.com/webmasters/ . In an effort to better address your
needs, we've dedicated this entire section of our website to answering
common webmaster questions, listing Google's quality requirements and
    recommendations, and much more.

Of course, we cannot anticipate and answer everyone's questions on our
website. Realizing this, we have also created a Google discussion group on
Google Groups where Google users and webmasters can connect to share their
vast knowledge and experience. You can access this group at
    http://groups.google.com/groups?q=google.public.support.general. If you
have already checked the webmaster section of our website and haven't
found an answer, we encourage you to post your question to the Google
    Support group.

    Regards,
    The Google Team

That's an automatic letter. Not a single letter was typed to make the E-mail. Some one glanced over your E-mail and clicked a send button.

But they have answered, better like no answer. This means that some read the E-Mails they get.

Or that they have a good auto responder.

It's obvious this was some template, they sent out to many people. But certainly not an autoresponder. I had sent this email about 3 weeks to 1 month ago. And if i received it now in this format, it's probably because they had to address tons of emails relating to the same subject. So i would concider this to be a proper reply to my email, even though it looks line a general answer.

Actually, the auto-response email does confirm some things. One of my concerns was I had two sites suddenly disappear from the index. If what was said in the Google email was true, then hopefully these sites were only temporarily dropped. I will probably wait until Google updates this month before writing a reinclusion request.

Here's there letter you get when you ask why the dance hasn't started.

    ***

Google's robots crawl the web on a regular cycle, indexing more than three
billion web pages. Because of the vast amount of data refreshed with each
crawl, the update process is completely automated; as a result, we're
unable to make manual changes for individual sites. New sites, changes to
existing sites, and dead links will all be noted in the course of the next
crawl, which will be completed soon.

For further assistance, answers to some of Google's most frequently asked
questions can be found at http://www.google.com/help/index.html. Other
helpful information can be found at http://groups.google.com in the
    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&group=google.public.support.gener al
    group.

    Regards,
    The Google Team
