Nofollow forum signature links with an anchor link hurt SEO?

I have just learned that Google doesn't like forum signatures with an anchor link in it but what if that link is no follow is it still hurt SEO?

Your question is a little double talk IMHO.

With rel="nofollow" in the link element the link itself is dropped from the link graph and therefore Google will not used it to calculate rankings.

Google will record the link but it won't be used to aid in SEO but of course Google will never penalize you for this either.

I was just coming to post about this. There is a heated thread at the Google Webmaster Forum where John Mu made the following comment.

    https://productforums.google.com/d/m...E/qw03x4akiTUJ

And another even more heated thread started that I've been involved in over at WebmasterWorld where Brett Tabke called BS on the whole thing.

Afraid to post links now... plus not sure if allowed here. The title of the WMW thread is: Google: Link Drops In Forums Is Spam and Will Get The Dropped Site Penalised

Oh and forgot to add, I was going to run around to all my forums this weekend to unfollow my sigs to be on safe side. This was one on my list, but just checked and sig links are already "no follow" so that's good and one I can take off my list!

I don't think that google is penalizing for links in signatures. It may decrease their value, but not punish sites for using them.

The links with nofollow will not give any link juice so there is no question of being consider it for seo. Hence Google will not penalize it for. But it is also need to consider that you must not flooded the same page with the nofollow links and make them spam. Avodi spamming and rest is good.

    The
nofollow are not for seo but to get a bit of traffic.

it neither contributes to no hurts your rankings.

Was it the only thing you did before your rankings dropped?

It can be a coincidence - google could have reindexed your website at the same time you added the link but panelized for something you had previously done.

Do you have proof? I've seen a page rank (for a non commercial keyword) based on no follow links. Pretty willing to bet it would work for at least low competition commercial keywords too.

Sounds like you're giving in to the Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt campaign by Google, aimed at making SEO less lucrative and more risky, to ultimately push budgets to AdWords.

If the link was legitimately obtained before Google said blah blah blah, now it's illegitimate? Why not disown your kids next time some jerk insults them? It's the same logic.
