Newsfeeds & Google Ranking
I am trying to boost the G ranking of one of our websites by displaying regularly updated, relevant content on the homepage.
Is there a way for us to use news feeds for commercial purposes based on a single specific topic, e.g. is there a service or software which allows us to search a large number of sources for "specific type of widgets" and automatically update our news section of the homepage with the relevant news articles for this topic every day or multiple times a day? We looked at Google's own News RSS feeds, but they are not permissible for commercial use. Is there a similar source which is OK for commercial use? Any advice on implementing these on the homepage for boosting the Google rank? (e.g. placement on page, any special tagging, archival etc) Last edited by tristanhunt : February 26th, 2006 at 01:32 PM. |

Feed information
I don't know if rss will boost google ranking and have not been able to find out.
I am more concerned about it hurting and we have been running one for a while and it does not seem to hurt. I always look for ways to make the site better first, then I try to find out if the changes will hurt my ranking. Its really hard to tell what can help, people say links, copy writing, lotsa others. If you are looking to add rss as a feature which would make your site better or offer a service your visitors would like to use check out a program called "feed for all". There is a good explanation of rss at wikipedia.org Make a really good useful site and others will naturally want to link to it. |

imo, because of rss abuse and high use, much of what is obtained is eventually considered duplicate content and, again, imho, has very little value in terms of SEO, the "Fresh Boost" and potentially could harm your site. I believe much depends upon the frequency of change over on the information contained in the news feed and the quantity of information being delivered as a percentage of content on the page being displayed.
