Newbie that doesn't understand backlinks, please help!

OK so I'm new, I thought I was gaining backlinks by doing article marketing. When I do a google search for my domain getoutnow.com
it finds me almost 3,500 times yet I used a tool somewhere on the internet today that says that I don't have any backlinks!

So if I have all these articles with my domain url isn't that a backlink? If not could you please tell me what I am doing wrong? And how to do it right?

Thanks

Google don't display all backlinks.

You might have 1000s of backlinks, but google might display 200 backlinks.

I see the same thing with my sites. They ignore certain types of links and give preference to others.

links can be either followed or nofollowed....the later don't count...

maybe the tool has some problem...or you can verify your backlinks through yahoo's linkdomain: command.

post ur url here ....dont put it as it is separate the chars by spaces and replace the "." by DOT.

I will have a look at it and get back to u.

according to Yahoo.com you have 96 inbound links from external websites

http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/advsearch?p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.getoutnow.com%2F&bwm=i&bwmo=d&bwmf=s

Yahoo is the only way to see how many backlinks you have. Google only shows a random sample and MSN removed their link command

go to yahoo.com and type linkdomain:www.yourdomain.com

You have multiple links from same domains....any number of links may it be 2 or 10,000 it will be treated as 1 by google.

However you don't have that many links but you surely have some but not ZERO links.

You can find your backlinks through this tool - http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

you can also try yahoo......

I think your site does'nt have qualitative backlinks (high-quality backlinks) that is why is it not showing up. By qualitative backlinks (high-quality backlinks) I mean like suppose you have a site dealing with 'sports materials' and you do reciprocal links, one way links with sites dealing with 'jewellery' then it will not count as your backlinks. Try to get justified links to your site. Google looks the actual content of the site which your are linking to and then decides whether to count this as quality backlink or not! Hope this helps! Thanks

Tools on the web usually use Googles link-command in my experience. That link command by Google shows - as others said - only a fraction of all links and is in general not very reliable. It takes a long time before you see any links there. That's why the tool says you have 0 links.

When you just type your domain into the search box, you don't find links to your site but pages that mention(ed) your domain (by the time the google bot visited it).

Use the yahoo site explorer or the Google Webmaster tools to get an idea about how many backlinks you've got. In any case, don't worry. Your links will be noticed and counted when the google bot sees them - he just won't tell you immediately about it.

Article links get counted Unless they are nofollow.. U can check it by using the above mentione tools and this one as well..it will show u the anchor text as well on which the link is made..

webuildpages.com/neat-o/
search.yahoo.com (Run the link: command here)
digitalpoint also tracks your backlinks..

Checking links at google is waste of time..Live has stopped showing it, the only option is Yahoo..

The best of all is : Sign up at Webmaster tools at Google, and check the links section there, it will show u the links when it found them last..

Hope that helps..

Above suggestion are quite good, I agree with all. You can also try at prmenow.com . You can also check your PR, Alexa rank & msn & yahoo search results etc.
