Newbie Question - What is this?

    Hi there,

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for their informative posts.
I've been lurking for a while now

My question is I ran across this page on a competitor's site and I can't figure out why they would do this.
What is the benifit to this site of having this page?

    www**runit**com/crawlerpos.html

Found it by doing a Yahoo search for my web site

    h**p://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp&p=pointofsaledepot

Thanks again for all your help.

    Randy

This is a page that is linked from their home page. It is the @ symbol at the bottom near the copyright notice.
    <font size="1" face="Arial"><a href="crawlerpos.html" target="_blank"></a>

They probably do it because outgoing links to relevant pages is a consideration in googles algorithm (so I hear).

It doesn't seem to be helping them much in google though, at least not for point of sale software or pos software.

I have seen something about this from goolge, this is spam, but I can not find the page now

what they do is just pull data from google search result, they are stupid, they should at least filter google title and header

You can report this to yahoo and google, they will be penalized

    Thanks for your responses.
I may report them, though you're correct in that it doesn't seem to be helping them much.

It just seemed to me like a really strange thing to do.
