New in SEO, please help
Hello everyone, I'm new in SEO.
So, please help me with a question
I cant understand where can I find the accurate statistic on google request search, I try use many free soft trafic travis and web seo and google adwords but I get absolutely nonsense results. And where can I find statistic for yahoo bing msn, I mean I enter how to lose a gay and i wanna see the search number of exactly this phrase?
for example health exercise and "health exercise"
111 000 000 (0,34 sec.) and 471 000 (0,26 sec.)
Does it mean google knows about 111000 000 pages with this two words and there 471000 pages that contain exactly this keywords, I mean all this 471000 pages try to be optimazed exactly for this keywords
So if I try to optimize site for health exersise - what the real numbers of my competitors for SERP? the first number or the second???
Or for example "diets to lose weight" - 60 600 and 19 400 000 for this request without quotes, and where can I find how often do users ask this request - google adwords says that its 49 500 - does it mean that users all over the world during the last month. Does it right?
So am I right if I focused on exactly "diets to lose weight", and try to optimized on the whole phrase, its will help me to win competition with the other 19 400 000 pages, thats contain this words by accident.
And I'm very suprised to see subdomains on 1st SERP, what google think about it

wow, that looks a little like a brain dump! I'm not certain what you're asking but if you're trying the measure your competition, it's not the amount of sites competing for a term its the quality of the sites you'll be competing against.
As for traffic the most accurate tool is google adwords.

Sorry for my sarcasm but why do you want to lose a gay? ;)
Simple way to start looking at this:
- do keyword research and find exact and broad matches searched in region you targed, e.g. UK, USA, Canada, etc;
- Get FireFox plugins called: SEO for FireFox and SEO Toolbar for FireFox from SEOBook.com - install them and play around;
Then you look at your top 10-20 competitors and try to see a pattern - what is ranking for that specific term. Keep in mind, you need to beat the top 10 sites only. The other 29384293489 results simply doesn't matter. Some samples to look at:
- are authority sites like wikipedia and cnn all over the place? Well, then try different term as it will take too much efforts to beat them if ever that will be possible for you.
- are top 10 results full of exact match type domains ranking with homepage?
- are there many sites that ranks with internal pages? This is good - means you could probably beat them by getting a good domain name with keyword in it etc. building more links etc (quality links of course).
- what are the average domain backlinks / page backlinks / pagerank for most of results? 100'000 backlinks and PR7? Then you might look at different keywords; if it's PR1 and 78 backlinks - then something you could replicate easily;
- can you think of way you could replicate it and get better results faster?
This should give you a basic idea of how to start looking at things.
