Need Some help

Hey Guys

Go Gentle I am new, I work for a corporate gifts company as a junior web assistant. I am slowly beginning to learn SEO and Web Design but could do with some help from the powers on here.

We started a new promotional blog and a forum to help increase the content and we stopped link building which when it was going was been done wrong and was been done 500 links per day! None of which linked back.

I am just wondering what is happening as the site went from 13th when it was just link building to 5th when the content started and now we have dropped to 8th the main goal like many other sites is to get 1st in Google and I am just wondering what is up with my site and why it isn’t improving.

Thanks in advance

Read everything you can about SEO.

You should not have totally stopped getting back links - that is rather unnatural - of course read up on what constitutes a "good back link" first.

There is a plethora of "free" information on the net about SEO - take notes to formulate a plan (goals, etc.) and start experimenting.

You get what you pay for is true - and a successful SEO is never going to divulge EVERYTHING they know because they would put themselves out of business -you however have the same opportunity to learn as everyone else.

Best wishes.

500 links? That was huge and no links return? How's that happen? I mean even a single backlinks from those links you didn't get any?

Those backlinks where they have came from? Maybe the problem is the optimization of your page.. I don't believe that you cannot get any backlinks from those huge number of backlinks..
