Name of places in plain English?

Hi, I'm running a website in tourism area. Our website promotes "places" in southern Spain. Our target user are English people.

Has you might notice, Spanish/Portuguese words have characters like á à ã ç ñ etc...

Now focusing on the name of places like Málaga, Cádiz, Matalascañas. English users (target users) don't type Málaga or Cádiz on google search. They will type "malaga bla bla bla" or "cadiz bla bla bla".

I already tried out and google returns different results for each search query "Málaga" and "Malaga".

Currently we use the correct words (Málaga) on our website. Do you think it might improve SERP, changing all the names of the places like Málaga to Malaga, Cádiz to Cadiz, Matalacanãs to Matalascanas?

    Thanks

Try using the html lang attribute.

    Code:
    <span lang="es">Cádiz</span>
I'm sure that there is more involved, but it's a start.

    Hi Cmancre,

I've just done a quick search on Google for "accent characters and google?" and Google says:

When a searcher enters a query that includes a word with accented characters, our algorithms consider web pages that contain versions of that word both with and without the accent. For instance, if a searcher enters [México], we'll return results for pages about both "Mexico" and "México."
    Read up more here:

and I the Google SERP page that I found it on:

I hope this is what you were looking for. If it isn't - I'm sorry!

    Hi Zagek,

Those links you point cleared all my doubts.

Regarding of what have read I going to change all word to non-accent. My target users are English.
