My site stumbled from 1st page to 7th page

Earlier my site ranked on the first page of Google but after 2 or 3 weeks it stumbled and went down to 7th page. I have a good number of back links which target my keywords. I tried many things. I changed my content which is totally unique. Is this possible that Google had changed its algorithm that's why it happened. Please help me!!

Nishant have you had a look at your back links with Google Webmaster Tools? Mine was showing 1100 - 1200 inbound links, now it is showing 28 - none of them to my home page. It would appear that Google is ignoring all back links to my home page.

I was at the top of page 2 but now I have fallen to the top of page 4. In the meantime my PageRank has gone up from 2 to 3.

i don't believe it's a penalization as your site is still there on the first page when checking for the domain name, without www. or .com. might be some of the backlinks have been devalued
the link which janecompersnews gave is quite helpful and can put things in perspective or give you ideas about what's happening and/or what to do

Google Webmaster Tools is the best way because it shows you how Google is seeing your backlinks - its a free service as well.

You can also use the following link but, as I said, it's useless with regards to how Google sees your backlinks.

There has been a lot of talk recently of Google changing it algorithm. At first I thought it was ignoring my directory submissions but, as I said, GWT seems to show it ignoring all links to my home page - its all very bizarre.

For my main keyword I've jumped from page 4 to page 1 today. I've never known the swings to be so large and volatile.
