Unhappy My keyword rank dropped dramatically in google

Several of our California coast travel business websites have keyword phrases losing a lot rank in google. Has anyone else noticed any kind of “California update” of some sort that has caused a similar issue?

Maybe the reason was the changes in algo of google. Some sites really lost its ranking after google update.

our page rank was fine, it's our keywords that lost positions for the sites

My big old "authority" site dropped a point of PR recently - where's the data on the latest Google algo changes?

This SEO stuff is enough to make one crazy.

Is that drop in your ranking for all your keywords or just from some of them ?? Is it significant drop (you are 4th page and down) ?

I agree. As far as I can tell the recent PR change which effected most every site hardly effected the SERPs.

Will the PR change have any effect in future updates of SERPs remains to be seen. Judging by past relationship of PR and SERPs, probably not!

We hope that's the case. I noticed the drop in PageRank a couple of days before the traffic to my entire site began to plummet. Checking various keywords for which I ranked high, I found that I was either way down the page or out of sight altogether. I had been ranking very well on several pages for YEARS. The only correlation I can find is that the PR on my index page had lost a point last week.

Why wouldn't you lost ranking if your PR drops? I'm pretty sure what happened to me constitutes evidence that your PR effects the rankings for your entire site.

There often may be a correlation between loosing PR and loosing SERPs. This is because PR is determined by the PR juice comming into your site from links. If you have lost one/some significant links and/or the links you have have been devalued this could cause both a loss in PR and a loss in SERPs. But this does not mean the loss of PR caused the loss of SERPs. The one did not cause the other. The loss or devaluation of links caused both.

The last PR update seems to have seen a change in the PR calculation. Many sites have lost PR and reported no loss of links and no loss of SERPs. Many think that google has raised the bar across the board as to what level of link juice is needed to get each PR level. If this is the case than all pages have changed more or less equally and therefore this has not effected SERPs.

So it depends on what has happened specifically to your site. Many people have been reporting SERP drops. The main theory appears to be google is devaluing many types of links. Examples pointed to are paid links, directory links, blog links, forum links, reciprical links, non relevant links etc. These type of links are note a 'vote' for your site. So maybee this is what has happened to you.
