    Mobile Or Responsive

I run a website on Wordpress. I have the option of a rather nifty Responsive theme, or a designated Mobile theme.

What is the best option for this site ??

    1. Responsive for desk top users and Mobile site for Mobile users.
    2. Responsive for all users

Hmmm! This is me letting my inner newbie show through: what's the difference between a responsive site and a site with a separate mobile design?

Edit: besides the obvious, I guess!

Personally I would go for pure responsive. Now my logic from this is actually going from what a lot of the major sites are doing. In previous years before responsive design a lot of companies would have specific m.domain.com sites, these have slowly been changed to responsive. My opinion is that now a mobile subdomain is seen as a bit of a dated and expensive technology. Also, it's horrible when someone posts on a forum using a mobile device, you get the mobile subdomain and view the desktop version and it just takes you back to the homepage requiring you to search to find the content you were just viewing.

A responsive site would be one that resized depending on the screen you are viewing on. A Mobile only theme would offer one site to large screens (Pc's etc) and a different site/theme to small screens (Mobiles and tablets).

Eg checkout this site on a Mobile and then on a laptop. See the difference ??

If your website is (going to be) catering to both mobile and desktop users, a responsive design would be better. A fully mobile theme will render the same on desktop and mobile, and as such, desktop users will see the mobile site. A responsive design also saves you the trouble of having to set up multiple WP installs and it's better for SEO in that you only have one URL to get into SERPs with (example.com instead of example.com and m.example.com); this also won't penalise your website for duplicate content.
