Just wondering,
If I have a website, lets say it's all about rhinestone cat collars, and it's called KittyCollar.com and its up for many years and doing ok. Then along comes a competitor, opens a site in the exact same niche, and names it KittyCollars.com. It there any way this could hurt my rankings?

The only way it could hurt your rankings (assuming it is a competitor site and not under your control) is that it could rank higher than you, and push you down a position.
It is not likely to hurt your rankings.
